Marvin Finishes Strong at U20 Outdoor Championships

First time competing for Vanderbilt, finishes third

EUGENE, Ore. – Sarah Marvin competed in the shot put at the 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at Hayward Field.

The incoming freshman represented Vanderbilt track and field for the first time and solidified the future of the throws program. Marvin opened the event at 14.06 meters in fourth place. Her third mark improved to 14.76 meters and positioned her in third overall, which she defended through the remaining three throws.

Marvin’s 14.76 meter effort is now the third all-time mark in Vanderbilt program history.

Volunteer assistant coach Joe Kovacs competed in the shot put at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships on Friday. He finished in second place with a mark of 22.87 meters and a pair of throws over 75 feet. This will be his sixth time representing Team USA.

Divine Oladipo (shot put) is set to vie for a spot on the British national team at the UK Athletics Championships in Manchester, England, at 5:38 a.m. CT on Sunday. She will need to finish in the top three and hit the world championship standard to qualify. Resurrecting the throws program for Vandy, Oladipo left quite a mark in her lone season as a Commodore. She holds the program records for indoor and outdoor shot put as well as the all-time mark in the discus. The three-time All-American also was an All-SEC selection both seasons.
