NASHVILLE, TENN. – While head coach Ian Duvenhage, Gonzales Austin, and Rhys Johnson are away vying for national titles in the Big Apple, the rest of the Commodore squad close out their fall by hosting Vanderbilt’s annual Commodore Scramble.
“We’re really excited about the opportunity to host another tournament this weekend,” said associate head coach Jamie Hunt. “We have some really great teams coming to play. I’m looking forward to an awesome tournament and hopefully our guys finish the fall on a high note.”
The three-day tournament features teams from six various SEC and Tennessee schools; including Alabama, Belmont, Memphis, MTSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee Tech. While most of these teams in attendance were at last month’s Ohio Valley Regional in Nashville, the scramble gives student-athletes a great chance to end the fall with additional experience under their belt.
Friday’s action kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with doubles teams taking both indoor and outdoor courts at the Currey Tennis Center. Following lunch, singles play will begin at 2 p.m. Coaches are free to change around doubles pairings from day to day, giving players a great chance to play alongside different teammates. Doubles will be played as an eight game pro set format with a tiebreak at 7 all. Singles completion will be best two out of three with no ad scoring throughout the entire day.
