Lipman bows out of D'Novo/ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Vanderbilt men’s tennis player Ryan Lipman fell in the second round of the consolation draw of the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championship Friday afternoon on the campus of the University of Tulsa.

Lipman was defeated, 6-4, 6-4, by Southern Cal’s Steve Johnson, who ranked at No. 7 in the Campbell’s/ITA preseason singles poll. Both sets were very closely contested, with several ties in each.

After dropping the first set, Lipman claimed the first point in the second set, and he and Johnson traded points until the set was tied at 4-4. Johnson scored the next point, and Lipman was unable to respond before Johnson clinched the match.

Up next for Lipman and the Commdores is the ITA Regional, in Lexington, Ky., Oct. 7-10.
