NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is set to open home competition this weekend with a pair of dual matches against Middle Tennessee (Friday) and Northwestern (Sunday).
The Commodores host Middle Tennessee in a Friday morning matchup as the two teams are slated for a 10:30 a.m. start before returning to their home court at 1 p.m. Sunday to take on Northwestern.
Admission to both matches is free of charge and parking is available on floors 9-11 of the 25th Avenue Garage (enter from Highland Avenue).
Debriefing
The Dores most recently competed in a three-day tournament in Miami. At the Miami Spring Invite, the team collected multiple wins over ranked opponents.
Anna Ross picked up a ranked win by defeating eighth-ranked Jaeda Daniels on the final day of competition.
Anessa Lee also tallied a top-25 win on the final day of singles, sweeping 25th-ranked Abigail Renchell of North Carolina State.
ITA Rankings
- Three individuals are ranked heading into the start of the season in Marcella Cruz (96th), Lee (112th) and Holly Staff (119th).
- Two doubles teams rank among the top in collegiate tennis as Cruz and Staff sit 36th nationally and Lee and Staff are ranked 57th.
Second Season
Head coach Aleke Tsoubanos is in her second year at the helm of the Dores in 2022. In her first year as head coach, Tsoubanos led her team to a 14-10 record and second round berth in the NCAA Tournament.
A former student-athlete for Vandy, she spent 13 seasons as an assistant coach before taking over in 2020-21.
On The Radar
Following their home-opening weekend, the Dores travel to the ITA Kickoff event in Berkley, California, where they are set to face San Diego on Jan. 28 before a bout with either California or Brigham Young the following day.
