NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Game 1 of the David Williams Fall Classic went to the Gold squad with a 6-1 victory in seven innings over Black on Friday night at Hawkins Field.
Black took an early lead with a first-inning solo homer off the bat of Brodie Johnston. The freshman finished the evening 2-for-3, adding a double in his second at-bat.

Cody Bowker got the start on the mound for Black and registered six strikeouts over three innings.
The Gold squad scored the final six runs of the game, beginning with a four-run frame in the fourth. Rustan Rigdon homered and David Mendez drove in a run with a single to right. Will Hampton drove in two more runs with a single up the middle that brought home Mendez and Jonathan Vastine.

Matthew Shorey, Tommy O’Rourke and Miller Green combined to hold Black scoreless over the final 4.2 innings. Shorey and O’Rourke each struck out a pair of batters.
Game 2 of the David Williams Fall Classic will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
