Vanderbilt track and field was on the road this weekend for the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame, the team’s first away meet of the season. The Commodores recorded several strong performances on Friday night’s portion of the meet, and used momentum from that to earn multiple top-five finishes on Saturday.
Senior Simone Charley was Vanderbilt’s highest-placing individual on Saturday after earning a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 43′ 1.75″. Senior Tierney Price also competed in the triple jump on Saturday and finished 16th overall with a jump of 38′ 6″.
In the pole vault, Vanderbilt had two athletes finish in the top five. Senior Sarah Bell and freshman Caleigh Lofstead finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Bell’s height of 13′ 7.25″ was a new season-best vault for her and Lofstead recorded a vault of 13′ 3.50″. Freshman Margaret Ollinger competed in the first flight of the pole vault on Friday and turned in a vault of 12′ 9.5″, which tied for the sixth-highest vault overall from both days.
Junior Jenn Edobi led the way for the Commodores in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 53.94 and fourth-place finish. Skyler Carpenter finished with a time of 56.64 and Lydia Witty also competed and crossed the finish line at the 58.56 mark.
A trio of Commodores competed in the 800-meter run, which ended in senior Courtney Clayton placing third overall with a time of 2:07.19. Sophomore Ginger Hutton (2:13.48) and freshman Reagan Bustamante (2:13.67) also ran in the 800-meter run and finished within mere tenths of a seconds apart and placed 31st and 33rd, respectively. Other mid-distance runners for the Commodores included junior Maddie Criscione and freshman Lauren Moffett in the mile run. Criscione finished with a time of 5:01.96 and Moffett completed the event at the 5:23.79 mark.
Senior Carmen Carlos ran in the 3000-meter run for Vanderbilt and finished 13th with a time of 9:41.29 and senior Courtney Kriegshauser competed in the event as well, finishing with a time of 10:37.60.
After competing in two events on Friday, senior Sarah Goodale also competed in the shot put on Saturday and recorded a put of 34′ 0.25″.
The team rounded up competition in the Meyo Invitational with the 4×400-meter relay, where the team earned a 12th place finish with a time of 3:43.65.
Next up for the Vanderbilt track and field team is the Music City Challenge at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility on Feb. 10-11.
