Commodores head to Jacksonville for final meet before SEC's

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field will wrap up the 2021 regular season at the UNF Invitational this week.

This is the last competition before the SEC Championships and also a preview of the NCAA East Regionals venue. The two-day meet begins Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida, with the discus at noon and continues through the men’s and women’s 5,000 meters which begin at 8:30 p.m. CT. On Friday, field events start at 9 a.m., while the track events start at noon and conclude with the 4×400 relays at 5:35 p.m.

So far this season, the Commodore women boast four outdoor school records and a total of 22 top-10 performances. In a shortened indoor season, Vanderbilt broke a pair of program records and etched 17 new entries into the school record book which included 14 different student-athletes in nine different individual events and two relays.

Vanderbilt has three performances which rank among the top 50 in the nation which includes Taiya Shelby (400 meters), Ruby Stauber (800 meters) and Grace Jensen (1500 meters), and currently have eight individual performances among the top 48 who would qualify for the NCAA East Regionals.

Postseason action begins with the SEC Championships in College Station, Texas, May 13-15. The qualifying Commodores will return to Jacksonville for the NCAA East Regionals, May 27-29.
