Dores Take Third at Tiger Invitational

Vandy completes third round

OPELIKA, Ala. — Vanderbilt completed its final round of the Tiger Invitational on Wednesday morning and landed in third place at 13-under-par for the 54-hole event.

The Commodores finished 3-under for the third round, the majority of which was played Tuesday before inclement weather moved into the area.

Auburn captured the team title with a 26-under-par while Alabama was second. At 13-under-par, LSU tied with Vandy for third.

“I’m proud of this group and the way they continue to hang in and be resilient,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “We started the final round really strong and we finished it really strong this morning which has been something we’ve been focused on doing.

William Moll paced the Commodores with a 4-under-par for the tournament and finished tied for 13th overall. The sophomore has now finished inside the top 15 in four events during the 2020-21 season.

Vandy senior Harrison Ott cared a 3-under-par and tied for 20th while Reid Davenport was 2-under-par and tied for 24th. Cole Sherwood and Michael Shears (competing as an individual) each ended up 2-over-par and tied for 36th while Matthew Riedel (+5) tied for 56th.

“Really proud of how William came out this morning – really proud of all the guys,” Limbaugh said. “It was cool and foggy, but the guys hung in there and playing 4-under was great. I thought what Matthew did after his opening round showed a lot of character so super proud of him.

“I also thought that the rest of the guys all looked solid.”

Vanderbilt had completed 15 holes of the final round when play was stopped at 3:26 p.m. Tuesday. The Commodores were even-par at that point and 10-under par for the tournament.

Play was also originally delayed 75 minutes Tuesday due to rain. It didn’t take Vanderbilt nearly as long to climb the leaderboard as the Commodores carded eight quick birdies to get to 18-under-par and were just two strokes off the lead.

Vanderbilt is scheduled to return to action March 26-28 at the Old Waverly Collegiate in West Point, Mississippi. The Commodores have now finished inside the top three in their last two events.

“We aren’t unhappy about where we are, but we know we got to a lot of work to do to improve,” Limbaugh said. “That’s the exciting part. I believe in this team. I know their character, I believe we’ll get better and we’ll get better before out next event.”
