Dores Fall to No. 21

Vanderbilt drops match against Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis competed at home on Sunday at the Ensworth Tennis Facility, dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 21 Alabama.

The Tide grabbed the early lead, as Matic Dimic and Roan Jones clinched doubles for Alabama, defeating Danil Panarin and his partner Connor Robb-Wilcox. Before that, Jeremie Casabon and Hugo Coquelin fell 6-2 to their Crimson Tide opponents. Joubert Klopper and Michael Ross’ match went unfinished at 4-3.

Alabama didn’t let up, and Dimic overcame Alexandre Hillhouse on Court 6 to start off singles play, 6-2, 6-2. The Dores fought back, with Ross defeating Matias Ponce De Leon in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0, on Court 4. No. 46 Filip Planinsek grabbed another point for Bama as he defeated No. 57 Panarin on Court 1. Jones followed with a three-set win on Court 5 to pick up another point and clinch the match for Alabama. Klopper and Casabon claimed the last two points for Vanderbilt to close out the match.
