NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Southeastern Conference announced the 2023 women’s tennis awards on Wednesday, and two members of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team were recognized.
Junior Célia-Belle Mohr was named to the First Team All-SEC for the second year in a row. Per the latest ITA rankings, Mohr sits at No. 15 nationally and has competed primarily in the No. 1 position for the Commodores. She boasts a 27-8 overall record this season, and most recently she defeated Texas A&M’s No. 3 duo, Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres, at the SEC Tournament alongside Holly Staff. In tandem with Staff, the pair is ranked 49th. Additionally, Mohr and doubles partner Anessa Lee took back-to-back wins over ranked opponents and are ranked No. 33 in the country.
Freshman Valeria Ray was named to the All-Freshman team. Ray boasts career-high rankings of No. 59 in doubles, alongside Staff, and No. 75 in singles and has competed primarily between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the Dores. Ray has defeated three ranked opponents this season and has 25 singles wins overall. In doubles, Ray has amassed 18 victories.
Vanderbilt awaits the announcement of postseason competition, with the NCAA Tournament selection show scheduled at 5:30 p.m. CT on Monday. The NCAA will reveal individuals invited to the singles and doubles championships on Tuesday on NCAA.com.
