Dores' Comeback Falls Short

Florida State outlasts Vanderbilt, 4-2

AUSTIN, Texas – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team fell to No. 21 Florida State, 4-2, on Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.

Earning a 1-0 advantage heading into singles, Florida State struck first to secure the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2.

In singles, senior Panu Virtanen picked up the Commodores first victory of the match by winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, over Pourroy to tie the match, 1-1.

Extending their lead to 3-1, the Seminoles stormed back to claim the matches at No. 4 and 6.

Battling at the No. 1 spot, sophomore George Harwell dominated the first set over Knaff, 6-4. In the second set, Harwell rallied to win in the tiebreak, 7-6.

With the Dores trailing 3-2, the Seminoles claimed their spot in the championship match with a 6-3, 7-6 (3), win at No. 3 to win the match, 4-2.

The Commodores will return to action on Sunday to face the loser of the Texas vs. Indiana matchup.
