“We can dance if we want to!”

Senior runner Adam Banks gives a cross country update as the team prepares for the Chile Pepper Race in Arkansas this weekend.

Hey VUXC fans,

It was another eventful couple of weeks for the cross-country team. We had a week off after the last home meet which gave us a little bit of time to relax and catch up on some work. The weekend was mostly spent celebrating Thomas Davis’ and Julie Eckerly’s birthdays. To satisfy Thomas’s ridiculous appetite we went to Las Americanas, a small authentic Mexican Restaurant. The food was amazing. The highlight of the night however had to be James Kasten’s amazing dance moves to some of Matt Long’s rap music. I didn’t really know James had it in him.

After a nice relaxing weekend and getting through another week of class, we traveled to Louisville, the home of Rick Semones, otherwise known as the Kentucky Laser, to race in the Greater Louisville Classic. Semones has an unparalleled loyalty for his home state, especially Louisville. Thomas Davis, who is not as die-hard about his home state, also lives in Louisville, so we went to his house for dinner. Many of the Cross-Country parents seem to take us in as their own when we visit; thus, we never go hungry. After eating, we ended up breaking open a piñata to celebrate Thomas’s birthday.

Afterwards, we went back to the hotel early, discussed race plans, and went to bed early for the race in the morning. Overall the race last weekend went well. We took some steps in the right direction towards being where we need to be for the big meets in a month. I think we are all excited to see what we can do this week at the Chile Pepper Race in Arkansas.

Later,
Adam
