NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Stepping out of SEC play for the final time this season, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team swept Tennessee State 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon on West End at Currey Tennis Center.
Vanderbilt quickly claimed the doubles point with strong 6-2 wins from Max Freeman and George Harwell at No. 1 and Marcus Ferreira and Adam Sraberg at No. 2. Jeremie Casabon and Connor Robb-Wilcox held a 5-3 advantage at No. 3, but went unfinished when the point was clinched.
Bringing the momentum into singles, Vanderbilt (6-11) did not lose a set against the Tigers (0-8). Wins from Ferreira (6-0, 6-2) at No. 2, Macsen Sisam (6-0, 6-2) at No. 4 and Casabon (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 officially clinched the match for the Dores. Harwell took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, followed by a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6 by Connor Robb-Wilcox and a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 by Joubert Klopper to seal the sweep.
With the win today, the Dores defeated all of its Nashville opposition (Belmont, Lipscomb and Tennessee State) this season.
Vanderbilt will return to conference action on Friday against the top-ranked Florida Gators at the Currey Tennis Center. First serve will take place at noon.
