Coach Balcomb’s Postgame Press Conference

Press Conference with Wirth, Marsh

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Christina Wirth scored 21 points and No. 20 Vanderbilt routed Alabama 88-64 on Sunday.

Merideth Marsh added 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers for the Commodores (17-5, 6-1 Southeastern Conference). Chanel Chisholm had 10 points and Jence Rhoads had eight assists.

“Christina and Merideth played really well today,” said Melanie Balcomb, VU head coach, “and they got a lot of really good looks and it’s because of the looks they got. We set up some really good screens and they really opened up our shooting.”

Wirth scored eight points during a 15-0 run that gave Vanderbilt the lead for good.

“Coming up to halftime, we played just as well as we did against Tennessee,” noted Balcomb. “We were clean, we had good shot selection, and we had stops.”

Varisia Raffington scored a career-high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Alabama (12-10, 0-7). Tierney Jenkins added 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Alabama’s last lead was at 15-14 after Jenkins’ layup. The Tide got no closer than 18 in the second half.
