Commodore Women Place in Top 10 at NCAA South Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team placed eighth at the 2017 NCAA South Regional at the Harry Pritchett Running Course on Friday. The Commodore men’s team placed 19th in the region.

Maddie Criscione led the way for the women with a top-20 finish after placing 19th, which earned her a sport on the All-South Region team. The Utah native ran a 20:31.2 over the 6,000-meter course. Fellow senior Megan Huebner recorded a top 50 finish, placing No. 43 with a time of 21:09.8.

Sophomores Kendall Derry and Regan Bustamante placed in the top 60 as well. Derry finished at 55 with a time of 21.20.1 while Bustamante closed in 59th place with a time of 21.22.0. In her first trip to the NCAA Regionals Gillian Mortimer ran a 21.28.5 – a new season-best – to place 69th.

Rounding out the Vanderbilt contingent was Anna Grace Morgan who ran a 21.43.4 good for 83rdplace while Devon Grisbaum placed 85th with a time of 21.44.5.

On the men’s side, the Commodores were led by Harrison Thomas who ran a 32.58.9 to cross the finish line in 79th place as the Commodores top runner. Jason Vincze was the next to cross the line for Vanderbilt with a time of 33.04.5 good for 83rd place. Freshman Aidan Livingston ran a 33.48.5 finishing in 116th place while Evan Suzman placed 119th with a time of 33:56.0.

Other runners for Vanderbilt included Caleb Casolaro (34.21.2), Andrew Irvine (35:07.3) and Waqqas Fazili (35:11.5)

The cross country teams will see if anyone gets selected for an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
