Former Commodore Drew Fann took over as the Director of Baseball Operations prior to the 2013 season. Fann played for the Dores from 2008-12 and is working towards his graduate degree from Vanderbilt.

Name someone that impacted your life.
My grandmother, Margaret Fann. She always had a smile on her face, and taught me the importance of helping others rather than myself. She showed me that What can I do for you? is far better than What can I do for myself?
Best advice you’ve received?
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. – Col 3:23. My mom sent me cards throughout college with notes in them, and one time she wrote this verse in her note. I have kept it with me ever since.
How did you end up at Vanderbilt?
I came to Vanderbilt in Fall 2007 to play baseball for Coach Corbin and the Commodores. Being from Murfreesboro, I was well-aware of the program Coach Corbin had built at Vanderbilt, and with the strong combination of academics and athletics, Vanderbilt was the place for me. It is the best decision I have made in my life.
Memorable moment as a child?
Attending Titans-Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV with my dad, uncle and grandfather. The Titans were one yard short!
If you weren’t in sports, what would you be doing?
In law school! I grew up working summers at my dad and uncle’s law firm in Murfreesboro, and I have always had in interest in the legal system. I would love to pursue a law degree at some point.
What was your first job?
In high school, I was a little league umpire.
First CD you ever purchased?
Backstreet Boys
If you had a time machine, what year would you travel to?
2011, so I could spend another day in college and at the baseball field with my teammates. We had so much fun together, whether it was playing baseball, going out to eat, or even playing Call of Duty on Xbox. Our close friendships were a big attribute to our success that year. We all still communicate with each other; it is a very special group of teammates.
Name one of your talents outside of work?
Garrett Walker and I are a dynamic karaoke duet.
Favorite childhood toys?
Nintendo 64 Ken Griffey Jr.’s Slugfest and James Bond Goldeneye are classics. I loved my Batman figurines, too.
If you could have dinner with three people, who would you choose?
Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Benjamin Franklinâ€â€all three stood for ideals that they knew were right, even though they weren’t always popular choices.
If you could speak to an audience for five minutes, what would it be about?
I would speak about the importance of hard work. If a person puts everything he has into a task, no one can ask more of him. There will always be more talented people, but they can be outworked. There will always be people who say You can’t do this or You can’t do that, but those are just more people to prove wrong.
What will you be doing 10 years from now?
I will be an athletic director at a successful university.
How do you want to be remembered?
As someone who is loyal, always willing to help someone, and loves his family.
