Andy Mack Transferring To Vanderbilt NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Andy Mack, a native of Plano, Texas, will transfer to Vanderbilt and join the men’s tennis team for the 2004-05 season, Commodore head coach Ken Flach announced Monday. Mack attended the University of Texas last year, compiling a 2-1 dual-match record in singles and a 15-4 overall record in doubles. He joins a Vanderbilt squad that advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2004. As a Longhorn, Mack earned the Provost Award and was named to the Big 12 Honor Roll. The Plano West product won the 5A state singles championship in 2003, and was ranked in the state’s top two for 16’s and 18’s. He earned Player of the Year honors from the Dallas Morning News during his senior year. Mack’s most recent accomplishments came last month in Plano, when he won both the singles and doubles titles at an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit Event at Collin County Community College. On championship Sunday, Mack won five matches, including a victory in singles over doubles partner Neil Kenner. “Andy was ranked fairly high in juniors, and I know he would’ve have liked more playing time on the senior-laden Texas squad,” Coach Flach said. “I think he is going to really contribute in singles and doubles. He has shown good instinct for doubles. With as young a team as we have, our lineup is pretty open once you get past the seniors, and we’re very glad to have Andy.” |
