Lauren Mira and Jackie Wu finished their singles play at the 2011 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships at the top of their game, each winning their matches to move on from the prequalifying rounds.
In Sunday’s final round of pre-qualifying draws, Mira defeated Utah’s Sarah Pham 6-3 and 6-0, while Wu defeated Penn State’s Petra Januskova 6-4, 6-0.
The two paired up in doubles for an 8-3 win over Fresno State before suffering their first loss of the weekend in the final round to Duke, 8-4.
“They competed really well at this high level of play,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald of his players. “They were closer matches than the scores showed. We’re very proud of both girls.”
Both Wu and Mira advance, two of eight players that are slated to play in qualifying rounds on October 4-5 at the Riviera Country Club as they seek the right to compete in the main draws that begin October 6th.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships November 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
