BATON ROUGE, La. – After battling through two rain delays, Southeastern Conference tournament officials decided to postpone the LSU and Vanderbilt women’s tennis match. The teams were scoreless when the match was officially postponed.
The match between the 27th-ranked Commodores and 20th-ranked Tigers was originally scheduled to start at 3 p.m. but was delayed due to inclement weather in the surrounding Baton Rouge area, forcing the teams to begin the match with singles play.
Vanderbilt’s Catherine Newman came out of the gates playing great tennis as she took the first set 6 games to three over LSU’s 12th-ranked Megan Falcon in the number one singles position. Keilly Ulery moved up to the number two singles position for the first time this spring and responded well as she held a 7-6 lead in the first set before the match was postponed. Freshman Jackie Wu led Whitney Wolf 6-3, 3-0 before the match was officially called.
The Commodores will continue their two-match road trip on Sunday as they square off against No. 29 Arkansas. The match with the Razorbacks will begin with doubles play starting at 11 a.m.
