GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Vanderbilt track and field secured five personal bests as it split its squad between the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and the Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida.
Jenn Edobi and Taiya Shelby showed up with big performances in the Sunshine State. Edobi collected a personal record in the 800 meters, clocking a 2:06.85. The time is good for fifth on the all-time outdoor records list. Shelby ran a personal best, 54.16, in the 400 meters. That time sits third best all-time.
Margaret Ollinger took sixth in pole vault with a mark of 12-11.50 (3.95 meters) while Caleigh Lofstead finished at 12-5.50 (3.80 meters).
Regan Clay also ran in Gainesville, Florida. The sophomore clocked a 57.31 in the 400 meters.
Twelve Commodores competed in North Carolina.
Grace Jensen ran a 4:28.31 in the 1,500 meters to lead all Commodores. Reagan Bustamante was not far behind, finishing at 4:29.23. Haley Walker collected a personal best in the event, finishing with a time of 4:31.62.
Ginger Hutton (4:35.17), Kendall Derry (4:37.90) and Lauren Moffett (4:40.20) also represented the Commodores in the 1,500-meter run.
Kacie Breeding also put herself on the outdoor records list, collecting an 11:07.45 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The time is good for eighth all-time.
Anna Grace Morgan notched one of the most impressive personal records of the day. The sophomore ran a 17:14.57 in the 5,000 meters, a personal best of 39 seconds.
Caroline Pietrzyk led the Commodores in the 5,000 meters, clocking a 17:03.16. Gillian Mortimer (17:04.44) and Devon Grisbaum rounded out the Vanderbilt student-athletes that competed on day one.
“We had some solid races and improvements today,” stated head coach Steven Keith. “We are looking forward to more good work on the relay and 800 meters. After this weekend we get back to training and look forward to another pair of quality meets.”
The Commodores will wrap up the Raleigh Relays tomorrow.
