Commodores Compete in Music City Challenge

Day One Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Nick Laning impressed in the 5,000 meters to lead the Vanderbilt track and field team in the opening day of the Music City Challenge.

Laning, the Commodores’ top cross country performer in his first year on campus, ran the 5,000 in 14:30.98, finishing strongly in the final 100 meters to claim a sixth-place finish.

Laning’s performance highlighted the Commodores’ first-day results at the Music City Challenge, staged at the Multipurpose Center on campus.
 
In the women’s 5,000, Caroline Pietrzyk ran a season-best 17:16.14 while Commodore teammate Gillian Mortimer clocked a 17:58.27.

Three Commodores also competed in the 200 meters, led by Regan Clay who clocked a 25.17. Taiya Shelby ran a 25.22 while Jordan Smith came in at 25.73.
 
Evan Suzman trailed Laning in the 5,000 with a time of 15:22.15.
 
Twenty-four Commodores will compete Saturday in the final day of competition at the Music City Challenge.
