Freshman Brionne Williams placed fourth in the Junior Women’s High Jump last week at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Brionne cleared a heigh of 5-foot-8 1/2 on her third attempt to place fourth in the competition. The mark was just a quarter inch below the Hoover, Ala. native’s personal best. The top six finished in each event earned USATF All-American honors within the Junior Meet.

“We extended Brionne’s season past the NCAA Preliminary Round because she is jumping well and needs to continue to get these big meet experiences,” Coach Clark Humphreys said. “This has been an excellent freshman year for Brionne and she has jumped at her best at these end of the season meets (SEC, NCAA and USATF).”

Only the top two finishers qualify to be a part of the U.S. National Team at this summer’s Junior Pan Am Games. The “Junior” designation is limited to athletes 19 and under through the end of the 2011 calendar year.

“Brionne has shown herself to be a very solid competitor and we look forward to building off of these performances for the 2011-12 season,” Coach Steve Keith said.
