The Vanderbilt women’s golf team will begin the 2010 SEC Championship this Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at the NorthRiver Yacht Club.

The Commodores will send senior Brooke Goodwin, junior Megan Grehan, sophomore Marina Alex, and freshmen Anna Leigh Keith and Lauren Stratton to compete in the three-day event.

The NorthRiver Yacht Club, a Gary Player-designed course, will be set up as a par-71, 5,963-yard layout.

Vanderbilt, the #24-ranked team in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Team rankings, is led by sophomore Marina Alex, who is second in the conference in stroke average with a 71.58 average in 24 rounds of golf this season. Six other SEC teams are also ranked in the Golfweek top 25.

Auburn claimed the 2009 SEC Championship, which took place in Columbia, S.C. The Commodores have claimed one SEC team title in the history of the program, and that came in 2004 in Baton Rouge, La. Vanderbilt also has one individual title, which happened the same year. May Wood claimed medalist honors at the 2004 tournament.
