NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Turns out a trip out west was just what some members of the Vanderbilt track and field team needed to take yet another step forward as there were two school records reset, a top 10 record book entry and major movement for the Commodores and their NCAA qualifying times over the last two days at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
Jayden Hill set the tone, resetting of her own school record in the 800 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:03.04, topping her previous record by over four tenths of a second.
Hill, less than 24 hours later, ran the same event at the Mt. SAC Relays and placed 10th, finishing in 2:06.58.
Both Commodore runners, Lily Kriegel and Tyla Lumley, made record book updates with their respective performances in the 5,000 meters.
Kriegel, already the only Vanderbilt runner to ever break the 16-minute mark in the event, shaved over 11 seconds off her personal-best time to reset her school record. Kriegel’s time of 15:45.08 was good enough to finish 12th in the event.
Posting her best time in the 5,000 meters in a Vanderbilt uniform, Lumley put her name in the record books, at eighth all-time, with a mark of 16:18.57.
Kriegel almost made it two-for-two in setting new personal bests at the Bryan Clay Invitational, making a strong push in the closing moments of the 1,500 meters on Saturday. She ended up finishing just over half a second off her personal best, however, at 4:21.03 to close out her weekend.
Over in the field events, Sarah Marvin wrapped-up her 10th-straight meet with a shot put distance of over 15 meters. She placed fourth in the event at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a top throw of 15.02 meters, just 0.03 meters from a podium finish.
Competing in javelin at her second meet in three days, Elizabeth Bailey placed second in the event at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She improved over 4.4 meters between the two meets and posted a distance of 49.96 meters, which was the top collegiate throw at the event.
The Commodores return to their own time zone for their next meet, traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday.
