NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s basketball head coach Stephanie White officially introduced former Commodores standout Marqu’es Webb as assistant coach on Thursday.
“Marqu’es is one of the best leaders I’ve been around,” White said. “She loves the game, is hungry to learn and is great at building relationships. She’s ready for this step and I am so excited to see her on the floor with our team.”
“I am incredibly grateful for Coach White and this opportunity,” Webb said. “This means so much to me it’s hard to put it into words. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a coach. Basketball has placed many great people, as well as coaches, in my life that have impacted me in multiple ways. So to have an opportunity to be a positive influence on the lives of other young women is an honor and a privilege that I greatly appreciate.
“I am honored my alma mater has given me this opportunity. My pride for Vanderbilt runs deep. From the time I was 17, I knew I wanted to be a part of the black and gold family and I am committed to helping better this program, and the entire Vanderbilt family.”
Webb returned to West End in 2019 after playing professionally overseas for two seasons and served as the program’s director of player development last season. In that role, Webb assisted with student-athlete development programs as well as community service initiatives and special events.
While at Vanderbilt, Webb played in 119 games with 80 starts. She netted 875 points and 703 rebounds in her career. The Montgomery, Alabama, native was also elected the SEC’s Women’s Basketball Leadership Council chair.
Vanderbilt, which doubled its win total last season returns four of five starters from the 2019-20 campaign and has added Florida transfer Brylee Bartram, South Florida transfer Enna Pehadzic, and incoming freshmen Emily Bowman and Bella LaChance.
