NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Liz Sherwood and Merideth Marsh each scored 13 points to lead Vanderbilt (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to a 92-51 victory over Alabama-Birmingham in the opening game for both teams Friday night.

The Commodores pulled away with a 27-1 run in the first half and led by 31 points — 45-14 — at the break. The 42-point margin of victory matched Vanderbilt’s largest lead of the game.

UAB was led by Diamond Rogers, who finished with 23 points. The Blazers led 3-0 but could not keep pace after that.

All 13 Vanderbilt players who got into the game scored, including four in double figures. Christina Wirth had 12 points and Amy Malo added 10 for the Commodores. In addition to her 13 points, Sherwood also grabbed nine rebounds.
