LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Vanderbilt track team wrapped up competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, hosted by the University of Kentucky, this afternoon. Like at the last meet, several Commodores posted personal best times and are working towards school records.
The meet began Friday evening with select field events. Katherine Hendricks, Morgan Toone and Meagan Martin all cleared a height of 11’9″. On Saturday morning, the field events resumed with the women’s high jump. Freshman Brionne Williams tied for seventh place with a height of 5’7.25″, and Ellie Tidman cleared a height of 5’5.25″.
“All three of our pole vaulters were jumping at the school record,” said assistant coach Clark Humphreys. “The three of them are very strong together and can each step up when needed. In the high jump, Brionne had a very strong showing. She and Ellie work very well together and they will be a part of Vanderbilt’s future in the field events.”
In the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, Anna Carr Hawkins posted a time of 7.73 just missing the finals by .03 seconds. Also in the 60-meter dash, Taylor Jackson and Josalyn White posted times of 7.88 seconds and 8.13 seconds, respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, Teegan Hill clocked a time of 59.10. She also raced in the 200-meter dash, and posted a time of 26.30. Hawkins clocked in at 25.23 in the 200-meter dash, while Jackson was less than a half second behind at 25.52. White clocked in at 26.75.
In her first race of the indoor track season, Rita Jorgensen placed fifth in the one mile run with a time of 4:51.55. Allie Scalf and Louise Hannallah finished in 10th and 11th place, less than one second apart from each other. Scalf crossed the finish line in 4:57.38 while Hannallah posted a time of 4:57.96. Kristen Findley (5:05.10) and Erin McManus (5:19.63) both improved on their one-mile times from last week. Kara Slavoski, competing in her first indoor meet ever, crossed the finish line with a time of 5:22.19.
“I’m very pleased with how the women competed today,” said assistant coach Rhonda Riley. “They are improving each week and setting themselves up nicely for our next big competition at the Tyson Invitational.”
Liz Anderson paced three Commodores in the 3000-meter run as she finished seventh at 9:52.67. Adrienne DiRaddo finished at 10:17.94 while Meghan Yohe posted a time of 10:46.37.
“It was great to have Rita out there and running aggressively, it was a very nice opener for her,” commented distance coach Steve Keith. “Louise and Allie posted solid PR’s, which should help them when we get ready for a fast 3K in two weeks. Also, it was a fantastic start for Liz. She ran a very smart and even paced race and she’ll match up with Louise and Allie when we get ready for SECs.”
The Commodores will split into two squads next weekend for competition at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame and the Middle Tennessee Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn. For up to date results and pictures from the meet, be sure to follow the track team on Twitter @VandyXCtrack.
