CALIENTE INFANTE
Julian Infante enters the weekend red hot over his last 11 games having hits in 10 of them. Over the 11-game stretch the sophomore is 18-for-45 (.400) with 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has five RBIs over his last two games, driving in three in Wednesday’s win over Belmont. The Miami, Fla. native has five of his team-best eight two-hit games over the 11 games and set a new career-best with four hits on Wednesday. He comes into Friday’s game leading the team with 32 hits, a .376 batting average, a .480 on-base percentage and has reached base in all 22 games this season.
FRIDAY NIGHT WRIGHT
Friday night’s starter Kyle Wright has not received much help from his offense in his five starts this season. The Commodores have scored 18 runs in Wright’s five starts for an average of 3.6 runs per game. The Dores’ defense has not been much better, making seven errors in four of Wright’s five starts. The big right-hander had his best outing of the season last Friday night despite the loss at Ole Miss, giving up just one run on six hits over seven innings in Vandy’s 1-0 loss.
WHO’S IN THE 2 AND THE 8?
Tim Corbin’s lineup has had lots of moving pieces so far this season and no more than the second and eighth spots in the lineup. Nine different Commodores have hit second and 10 different Dores have hit eighth in the team’s 21 games. Connor Kaiser has hit second the most with six starts and Jason Delay has been in the eight-spot the most with seven starts.
AGAINST THE AGGIES
The Commodores welcome Texas A&M to Hawkins Field for just the second time in just the third series between the two schools in history. The Aggies have claimed each of the first two series, including the first-ever series in Nashville in 2014 and last year’s series in College Station. Vanderbilt is 5-7 all-time against the Aggies.
CHASING THREE
Jeren Kendall picked up his third triple of the season on Sunday at Ole Miss on a bloop down the right field line. The three-bagger was Kendall’s 17th of his career in his pursuit to catch school record holder Tony Kemp, who wrapped up his outstanding three-year career at Vanderbilt with 21 triples. Kendall matched Kemp (2012) and Ryan Klosterman (2004) for the single-season school record last season with eight.
