VU’s Joe Germanese Named to MVC All-Tournament Team

OMAHA, Neb. – Vanderbilt freshman forward Joe Germanese was named to the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team following the league’s championship game Sunday at Morrison Stadium (Creighton).

SMU’s Ryan Latham scored with 22 seconds remaining in the match to lead the Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over Tulsa in the title match of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.  The No. 3 SMU Mustangs will represent the MVC as the league’s automatic qualifier in the NCAA Tournament.

The Commodores lost in first round action to SMU, 2-0, in Dallas, Texas.  Of the Commodores five shots, Germanese totaled three, including one on goal.  Germanese was also named the MVC’s Freshman of the Year, while earning All-Freshman Team honors.

Germanese is only the second Commodore to earn MVC All-Tournament honors and the first since 1999 when Travis Weeks was selected to the team.
