VU in a tie for 6th at Tavistock

First Round Results

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The Commodores fired a two-over par, 290, in the first round of the Tavistock Collegiate Sunday at the Isleworth Country Club and are in a tie for sixth on the team leaderboard in a field that includes seven top 25 teams. Individually, junior Matthias Schwab and freshman Will Gordon were the top Vanderbilt finishers in the first round, with each posting a one-under par, 71.

Vanderbilt, who is tied with North Florida for sixth, trails team leader California by 11 shots. The Commodores are three strokes behind fifth-place North Carolina and four shots back of fourth-place Illinois.

“I thought we played some good golf today for the most part,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “It was important for us to get off to a good start and we were able to do that. However, we left some shots out there and we made a few poor decisions that led to some big numbers that kept us from having a really good round. We need to be a little better tomorrow than we were today, and we need to embrace that.”

Besides Schwab and Gordon’s 71, Vanderbilt also counted a pair of 74’s from freshman Patrick Martin and sophomore Theo Humphrey.

Individually, Collin Morikawa of California leads all individuals after posting a five-under par, 67, on Sunday. He leads a pair of players, Illinois’ Dylan Meyer and Arizona State’s Max Rottluff, but one shot heading into the second round Monday.

The Commodores will tee off at 7 am CT off of the first tee with Texas Tech and Ohio State on Monday.
