PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Senior Matthias Schwab and junior Theo Humphrey each finished the Carmel Cup with a three-round total of 208 to lead the Commodores at the Pebble Beach Golf Links event. Schwab and Humphrey each finished in a tie for fifth, and as a team, Vanderbilt finished in fourth at the eight-team event with a total of 1056 (356-347-353).

Schwab and sophomore Patrick Martin counted Vanderbilt’s lowest scores on Sunday, with each carding a three-under, 69. The Commodores also counted a 70 from Humphrey, an even-par 72 from sophomore Will Gordon, and a one-over 73 from John Augenstein.

“It was another wonderful week at Pebble Beach and a great way to start the season,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I’m very pleased with how Theo hung in there today and stayed patient with his game. Matthias and Patrick really were steady all day long. I thought we played good golf this week, but we didn’t play winning golf. I am encouraged that all the things we didn’t do well are things we can correct. We know college golf is all about how we progress throughout the season. We have almost a month before our next event and our focus will be on improving and getting more consistent in some areas.”

Oklahoma State won the event by eight strokes over Georgia after carding a final-round team score of 344. Individually, Fredrik Nilehn of Texas Tech won medalist honors with a 14-under par, 202 (68-67-67), two strokes better than Alvaro Ortiz and Greyson Sigg of Georgia.

The Commodores return to the course at the Nike Collegiate Invitational October 2-4 in Fort Worth, Texas.
