DALLAS, Texas – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team captured their third team championship to close out the 2012-13 regular season campaign on Tuesday at the Jim West Intercollegiate on the TPC Craig Ranch course in McKinney, Texas. Vanderbilt defeated second-place Oral Roberts by seven strokes with a score of 885 (294-299-292), and the Commodores placed three individuals in the top 12, with sophomore Hunter Stewart leading the way with a third-place finish and a final total of 217 (74-73-70).

Vanderbilt’s team win was its third of the season after winning its own Mason Rudolph Championship and the ASU Fall Beach Classic, and it is now the most team tournament wins in a single season in Vanderbilt men’s golf history. The previous best was two in 2002 when Brandt Snedeker led the way for the Commodores.

“Obviously, it was a great team effort out there today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We had all five guys in it all day and Hunter played a really good round for us. I am extremely proud of this group and how they remained resilient throughout the tournament. I want us to enjoy this. It was a nice end to the regular season.”

Stewart’s third-place finish on Tuesday was his fourth top five finish of the season and his fifth top ten. Freshman John Voetsch, who carded a six-over par, 222 (71-77-74), had his best finish as a collegian and his second consecutive top 10 with a career-best seventh place standing. Voetsch competed as an individual in Vanderbilt’s last tournament in Memphis and placed in a tie for eighth.

Junior Charlie Ewing finished in a tie for 12th with a 223 (77-72-74), freshman Zack Jaworski finished with a 226 (72-77-77) and tied for 21st, while sophomore Jordan Janico carded a 232 (78-80-74) and ended the tournament in a tie for 42nd on the individual leader board.

Northern Illinois’ Bryce Emory and Sarosh Adi of TCU tied for medalist honors for the tournament.

Vanderbilt’s regular season concluded with the Jim West Tuesday, with the SEC Championships awaiting the Commodores next weekend in Sea Island, Ga., April 19-21.
