VU Bowlers Finish Jamboree 7-3

Oct. 28, 2007

JONESBORO, Ark.–Vanderbilt won three of five Baker games Sunday to finish with a 7-3 record at the season opening Central Region Jamboree.

The Commodores beat Arkansas State, Grambling and Pine Bluff in Baker competition but lost to Central Missouri and Alabama A&M to cap a weekend of mixed results.

“On the plus side our younger players gained some very valuable experience, and that was probably our primary reason to attend,” Coach John Williamson said. “They were put in some difficult situations at times and that will pay off down the line. However, we didn’t adjust to changing lane conditions like we must. As the lanes broke down over the day, we were reactive instead of proactive. The team is disappointed but this gives us a good baseline to improve upon as we go forward.”

Williamson thought sophomore Ashley Belden and freshman Amanda Halter were among the team’s bright spots on this weekend.

Central Missouri ended the two day event with a 9-1 mark. Vanderbilt was 7-3 while Arkansas State and Alabama A&M were both 6-4.

The Commodores travel to Whitewater, Wis., in two weeks for the Cheeseland Invitational, a tournament that will attract many of the top teams in the country.
