On Thursday members of Vanderbilt’s football team began making phone calls to season ticket holders thanking them for their support in the stands.
In the process of making phone calls, players asked the ticket holders they spoke with how long they have been Commodore fans. What the players found were a wide range of responses, but there were two in particular that stood out.
Season ticket holders Bill Kelly and Buddy Shaffer have each been fans for more than 60 years. As a reward for their loyalty, the two received unexpected return calls Thursday evening from wide receiver John Cole and offensive lineman Caleb Welchans.
Cole and Welchans each spoke with the two longtime fans and notified them that Vanderbilt Athletics was rewarding them with a Vanderbilt mini helmet signed by Head Coach James Franklin. Watch the video of the two calls.
Members of the football team will again be calling season ticket holders to thank them on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, so if you have tickets you can expect a phone call.
