Watch Foggie’s Incredible Shot
Head Coach Melanie Balcomb couldn’t believe it.
Even Christina Foggie admitted that her last-second shot didn’t stand a chance. “To be honest, I completely just threw it up and it hit every part– the backboard, the rim a few times,” she said.
Foggie’s contested, off-balance three-pointer did go in— in fact it banked off the glass twice– to force overtime against Florida Thursday night. Vanderbilt (20-6, 8-5 SEC) kept fighting in the extra period and picked up the much-needed 75-69 victory to give the Commodores a leg up on the Gators (16-10, 6-7) in the crowded conference standings.
After the game, Balcomb broke down the miracle moment, one which Foggie could only describe as “lucky, just lucky.”
“We go screen for Foggie to get her free from the post and (Florida) switched,” Balcomb told reporters. “And then Jas(mine Lister) does a dribble handoff. We said if they switched that or trapped, go back to Jas to try and get one of those two. I didn’t even know (Foggie) was going to get it off. It was a lucky shot.”
Lucky? Maybe. But so were the 4,083 fans in attendance who witnessed Magic’s inevitable return to Memorial.
