Dores fight to 4-3 victory over LSU on Sunday

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team rallied after its Friday defeat, taking Sunday’s match against LSU at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

Célia-Belle Mohr and Sonya Macavei put the Commodores (9-5, 4-3 SEC) in the lead when they took straight-set matches on Courts 1 and 6 in singles play on Sunday. Vanderbilt already had the advantage, having won the doubles point.

The Dores claimed doubles after Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray defeated their Tiger opponents, Florentine Dekkers and Aran Teixido Garcia, on Court 2, 6-2. Clinching the point was duo Holly Staff and Amy Stevens, when they won 6-3 on Court 3 over Gaby Rivera and Maya Tahan.

Vanderbilt added three more points to its lead in singles, and Anessa Lee clinched the match when she overcame Rivera 7-5, 6-1 on Court 4. Just prior, No. 11 Mohr claimed a straight-set win over Teixido Garcia, 6-2, 6-4, alongside Macavei’s 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kenna Erickson on Court 6. Staff, Ray and Stammel fell to their respective LSU opponents, making the total 4-3, with the Dores taking home the victory.
