Fifth-ranked Tennessee uses second-half run to defeat the Commodores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Dalton Knecht finished with 32 points and six rebounds Saturday in leading No. 5 Tennessee to a 75-62 SEC men’s basketball win over Vanderbilt at Memorial Gymnasium.

After trailing by five at the break, the Volunteers (15-4, 5-1 SEC) used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take control of the contest. Santiago Vescovi supplied 12 points, Josiah-Jordan James and Jordan Gainey scored 10 points each, and Jonas Aidoo added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Tyrin Lawrence paced the Commodores (5-14, 0-6 SEC) with 21 points—one shy of matching his season-high total—and eight rebounds. Ezra Manjon recorded 14 points and five rebounds for the Dores, who also got eight points and six rebounds from Ven-Allen Lubin.

Tennessee shot 49.1 percent from the floor overall, making 53.8 percent including hitting 7-of-14 3-point attempts in the second half. The Volunteers also held a 38-31 advantage on the glass.

Vanderbilt closes out January with an 8 p.m. contest on ESPN2 at Auburn on Wednesday.
