Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt – November 21, 2006

Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings

On the game: “We congratulate Wake Forest. They deserved to win the game. The story of the game was our foul problems in the first half. We credit Wake Forest for getting in the lane and getting by us defensively. We did a poor job in the interior. We got into a situation where they got the lead and ended up having it the rest of the game. We played very much like an inexperienced team.”

On figuring out Wake Forest newcomers: “It wasn’t hard, we’ve seen Wake Forest games. We knew what different guys could do. (Ishmael) Smith didn’t do anything we hadn’t seen him do on tape.”

Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser

On the game: “I thought it was a good result for us tonight. Vanderbilt is a good team. They’re a good three-point shooting team. I don’t think we managed the clock exceedingly well. We have to know when to hold and when to fold.”

On Senior Kyle Visser: “As you know, they doubled teamed him and put him in very precarious situations. He and Mike Drum are really selfless.”

On the team’s freshmen: “They’re going to have to play and play well for us to beat a good team. They’re not playing as fast as I’d like us to play. Joe Dukes played really well for us. The reality is they are going to have to play significant minutes for us to win.”

On Sophomore Kevin Swinton: “Kevin Swinton played with the flu tonight but gave us some good minutes.”

Senior Kyle Visser

On the team’s play: “We shared the ball well and found the open man.”

Senior Michael Drum

On the young team: “We like to be the underdog, and we are very young. Kyle and I don’t have time to wait to get better.”

Freshman L.D. Williams

On the play of the freshman: “We work hard everyday. Coach tells us no one in the country cares if you are a freshman. We are a defense oriented team. Our defense creates our offense.”

Freshman Ishmael Smith

On being compared to Chris Paul: “That’s a nice compliment from Mike considering he played with one of the best point guards in the NBA. I have a long way to go to be like Chris Paul.”
