Vanderbilt Thrower Vensherrie Campbell Among Finalists For McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship 3/16/2004 CLEVELAND, Ohio — Vanderbilt senior thrower Vensherrie Campbell was named one of 10 finalists for the fifth annual John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). A Blue Ribbon Committee from NACDA will review the 10 finalists to determine five winners. Each of the five will receive a $10,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. Campbell, a resident of Hephzibah, Ga., owns Vanderbilt track and field records in the hammer throw (169’7″) and indoor weight throw (58’3.75″). A three-year letterwinner, Campbell also is one of the most involved student-athletes on the Vanderbilt campus, serving as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Board and student-athlete representative to the Student Government Association. She is majoring in Human and Organizational Development. Minorities who intend to pursue a postgraduate degree in athletics administration are eligible for these scholarships. Students were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, have senior status and have demonstrated leadership qualities on an institutional or community level. Funding for the scholarship program has been provided in part by adidas America, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), National Basketball Association (NBA), Eddie Robinson Foundation, Host Communications, Inc., Sears, Roebuck and Co., and NACDA. |
