Vanderbilt’s Season Opening Tournament Postponed Due to Hurricane Ivan

Originally scheduled to open the season this weekend at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in Rocky Face, Ga., the Vanderbilt men’s golf squad (#21 Golf World/#23 Golfweek) will be forced to wait another week to officially christen the 2004-05 campaign.

Host institution Georgia Tech issued an announcement on Wednesday afternoon stating that the tournament would be postponed until November 5-7 due to the impending threat Hurricane Ivan poses on the southeastern United States.

All 18 teams in the field, which includes Georgia Tech, Georgia and defending tournament champion Florida, the nation’s top three teams in the Golf World magazine preseason ranking, are expected to be able to participate on the rescheduled dates. The rest of the field includes Auburn, Augusta State, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, New Mexico, NC State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Christian, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

The Commodores will now open their season over Sept. 27-28 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club by participating in their home event, the Mason Rudolph Championship.
