BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two Vanderbilt newcomers who worked their way into the Commodore starting lineup, Jonathan Goff and Hamilton Holliday, were named to the fifth annual Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team Thursday following a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

Goff, of Lynn, Mass., was one of five linebackers named to the freshman defensive unit. Holliday, a native of Marietta, Ga., was named as one of five offensive linemen on the the coaches’ ballot.

“I’m very pleased for both Jonathan and Hamilton. It’s a great honor for both of these young men because this is such a great conference,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson said. “Both Jonathan and Hamilton made great strides during the season.  By the end of the season, both were starting and playing very well for our team.”

Goff, a 6-4, 236-lb. redshirt freshman, saw his defensive contribution increase with each game.  By the seventh game of the season, he was starting at middle linebacker.  In his first collegiate start, Goff notched five tackles and a forced fumble at LSU.  He averaged seven tackles in the final three starts versus Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee.  Goff concluded the season as the Commodores’ ninth leading tackler with 38 total stops. He also contributed a quarterback hurry in addition to the forced fumble.

Like Goff, Holliday opened the season as a key reserve on the offensive line.  Holliday’s playing time increased after  offensive guard Mac Pyle left the squad. Holliday, who played both center and guard this season, started a guard in the  Commodores’ final two games against Kentucky and Tennessee.  In those games, the Commodore offense averaged nearly 400 total yards.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that SEC coaches have recognized multiple Commodores on the league’s all-freshman squad.
