VANDERBILT RE-VU
LSU knocked off Vanderbilt 5-4 in the SEC Tournament Championship Game on Sunday. The Tigers scratched out a run in the 11th top the Dores. The Commodores rolled by Mississippi State 16-8 to advance to the championship game. The Dores matched season bests with 16 runs and 19 hits in the win. Vanderbilt shut out Texas A&M 3-0 Friday night behind Tyler Beede’s 14th win of the year. The Commodores edged South Carolina 4-3 in 10 innings to advance Thursday. Conrad Gregor knocked in the winning run with a single in the 10th. Vanderbilt dropped its opening game of the SEC Tournament 5-0 against Texas A&M. Walker Buehler took the loss in six innings.

SEC ACCOLADES
Seven Commodores were recognized by the SEC’s coaches in the league awards. Tony Kemp was named the SEC Player of the Year, becoming the second VU player in history (Hunter Bledsoe, 1999) to earn the award. Kemp is just the third player in SEC history to win both Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in their career. Head Coach Tim Corbin was named the league’s Coach of the Year after leading the Commodores to a league record 26 SEC wins. The accolade is the second for Corbin since his arrival on West End in 2003. Senior Mike Yastrzemski joined Kemp on the All-SEC first team and All-Defensive team. Connor Harrell and Tyler Beede were both tabbed All-SEC second team. Three Vanderbilt freshman (Carson Fulmer, Zander Wiel, Xavier Turner) were on the All-SEC Freshman team.
THE COMMODORES INSIDE HAWKINS FIELD
Vanderbilt went 31-4 inside Hawkins Field this season outscoring opponents 281-119. The Commodores hit .322 as a team led by Tony Kemp’s .382 batting average. The SEC Player of the Year had 50 hits and scored 41 runs this season at home. The Dores’ pitching staff posted a 2.90 ERA while beating up opposing pitching for a 7.71 ERA.
THE FIELD
The Commodores have played all three teams in the Nashville Regional. VU is 3-0 all time vs. East Tennessee State with the last meeting coming in 2003, a 5-4 Vandy win. The Dores last met Georgia Tech in 2006 in the Atlanta Regional when the Yellow Jackets topped Vanderbilt twice to eliminate the Commodores. VU is 25-40-1 all time against the Jackets in a series dating back to 1901. Vanderbilt has played Illinois only once in history, a 5-1 loss in 1915.
VANDERBILT IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Vanderbilt makes its eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 12th appearance in school history. The Nashville Regional is the second in three years for Vanderbilt and third in school history (2011, 2007). The last time the Commodores hosted in 2011, the team swept their way through the Regional with two wins over Belmont and one over Troy. Vanderbilt is 29-23 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
