Vanderbilt lands No. 12 recruiting class

Nov. 5, 2010

Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores landed the No. 12 recruiting class in the country according to Baseball America.

The Dores have 14 newcomers on the roster ready to compete in the spring when the team opens the season at San Diego on February 18. Head Coach Tim Corbin and assistant coaches Derek Johnson and Josh Holliday added 11 true freshmen and three transfers. The class consists of five infielders, five pitchers, three outfielders and one catcher.

“This seems to be a quality group of newcomers,” Corbin said. “We have had the opportunity to watch them for the last 6 weeks and compete against outside competition. Several will impact our clubs success immediately; others will have to be patient.”

The final evaluation of recruiting classes takes place after Major League Baseball’s June draft, which Vanderbilt lost no recruits to this year. Eight Southeastern Conference teams placed classes in Baseball America’s Top 25 with Vandy’s class ranking fourth among SEC rivals. Including the SEC teams, the Commodores will play 12 teams in 2011 that have Top 25 recruiting classes. The entire Top 25 is below along with the newest Commodores.
