The Vanderbilt Invitational wasn’t just exciting, it was also historic.
The two-day event, held last weekend at Vanderbilt’s indoor complex, featured a huge collection of outstanding performances, with records steadily being broken throughout the meet.
The final numbers were sensational — 18 new facility records, 13 marks that ranked among the top-10 in Vanderbilt history, three national-collegiate-leading marks, one new school record and one world-leading performance.
The new school record was set in the triple jump by Vanderbilt sophomore Simone Charley with her leap of 42′ 5½ on Saturday.
The world-leading performance came in the men’s long jump, where Louisiana Tech’s Jarvis Gotch posted a mark of 26-7.75.
The three collegiate-leading marks came in the women’s 800 (Ole Miss freshman Brooke Feldmeier, 2:05.27), the men’s 800 (Alabama junior Alex Amankwah, 1:46.86) and the men’s long jump (Gotch).
