Team notes
* Vanderbilt improved to 17-16 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
* Vanderbilt is now 7-4 against Illinois State all time. The win on Sunday, marked VU’s third win over ISU this year. The Commodores defeated ISU 9-2 in the second game of the Music City Classic in Nashville on March 6 and won 8-7 in 13 innings in the first game of the Louisville Regional on Friday.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its ninth NCAA tournament appearance in school history, including their fifth straight. VU has made the NCAA tourney six times in eight seasons under head coach Tim Corbin.
* Vanderbilt left 17 runners on base Sunday, tying the team’s season high of 17 left on base which was set on Friday vs. Illinois State at the Regional which came against Illinois State on June 4.
* The Vanderbilt bullpen was excellent once again against Illinois State, allowing just one run in 5 innings of relief.
Individual Notes
* Drew Hayes struck out three and walked one in 2.2 innings of no-hit scoreless relief on Sunday. In two relief appearances this weekend, Hayes has allowed just one hit in 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Hayes extended his scoreless innings streak to 8.2 innings. In his last six outings, Hayes has given up just one hit and struck out 11 over eight and two-thirds innings.
* Aaron Westlake connected on his team-leading 14th home run of the year, a three-run shot in the ninth inning. Westlake has now homered in 7 of his last 12 games. The home run for Westlake was his 24th of his career. Westlake finished the game with 4 RBI, marking the fourth time he has driven in 4 runs in a game this year.
* Jason Esposito recorded his team-high 24th double of the season.
* Anthony Gomez stole two bases on Sunday, marking a new career high. Gomez has 9 stolen bases on 12 chances this year.
* Brian Harris, Jason Esposito and Joe Loftus each had two hits in the win to lead VU.
* Jack Armstrong walked a career-high six batters on Sunday.
* Drew Fann tied a career-high with three base-on-balls. Fann also walked three times against Ohio on March 13, 2009.
