Marina Alex and Lauren Stratton saw their U.S. Amateur journeys come to an end on Wednesday when both dropped their round-of-64 matches at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.
Alex lost her match, one down, to Cindy Ha in the morning, and Stratton dropped her match, 2 & 1, to Lindy Duncan.
Alex was three down with six holes to play, and cut Ha’s lead to one on the 17th hole, but Ha saved par on 18 to win the match. Stratton fell down behind early in her match, and never recovered. Down four holes with nine to play, Stratton cut into Duncan’s lead by two, but could not get any closer.
The U.S. Amateur continues through Sunday.
