Vanderbilt DMR Team sets school record to cap off Florida Relays

April 1, 2017

A Vanderbilt school record was set on Saturday in the distance medley relay. Ginger Hutton, Becca Schulte, Reagan Bustamante and Courtney Clayton teamed up to deliver a time of 11:34.58, which broke the old school record of 11:36.19, which had been standing since 1998. Aside from setting the school record, the team also finished second overall in the race, only finishing behind Mississippi State. The Commodores other distance medley relay team, which comprised of Maddie Criscione, Sarah Goodale, Kendall Derry and Courtney Kriegshauser, finished with a time of 11:52.77 and fifth overall in the race.

The record-setting DMR team wasn’t the only Vanderbilt performance to earn a spot on the school’s all-time record list, however. Bustamante, Hutton, Criscione and Derry formed a 4×800-meter relay team that now ranks fourth all-time in school history. The group finished with a time of 8:50.35 and took fourth place in the race.

The first relay of the day for Vanderbilt was the sprint medley, which featured Clayton, Goodale, Schulte and Jenn Edobi. The relay team recorded a time of 4:05.71 and earned an 11th-place finish.

Some highlights from other days of the meet include Edobi running the second-fastest 400-meter dash in Vanderbilt history on Friday and Mailin Struck pairing up with Megan Huebner to compete in the 5000-meter run, where both finished in the top 10 on Thursday evening.
