Van Geffen breaks 35-year-old Vanderbilt record at Tennessee Relays

Senior Jake Van Geffen competed in the 10,000 meter run during the Tennessee Relays on Thursday evening and broke a school record that has stood for 35 years. Van Geffen’s time of 30:51.97 shattered the old record set by Harrison Campbell back in 1982 by 20 seconds. Coincidentally, Campbell’s record was also set on an April evening at the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track.

This was not the first Vanderbilt school record that Van Geffen had broken during the 2016-17 track season. He also set the school’s record for the 5000-meter run during indoor competition with a time of 14:49.19 at the Music City Challenge.
