Commodores conclude June Stewart Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up play in the annual June Stewart Invitational on Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center.

“There were a lot of bright spots this weekend. Our young players are learning and improving. The good competition this weekend will help us prepare and get ready for the spring season,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald.

The Commodores commanded a strong start to go undefeated in doubles play to open the final day of competition.

Leading the Dores to their first victory of the day, Commodore freshmen duo Dasha Kourkina and Marcella Cruz battled against Middle Tennessee State pair Klapman and Gupta. The pair rallied to collect their first victory as a doubles tandem, 8-4.

Senior Emma Kurtz and freshman Anna Ross teamed up to earn their second doubles victory of the Invitational by taking down Princeton pair Shvets and McKee, 8-4.

In singles play, the Dores faced top opponents, falling short on all five courts.

Senior Christina Rosca and sophomore Georgia Drummy will travel to California on Tuesday to battle in the Oracle Fall Championships beginning on Wednesday.

The team will be back in action to kick off the spring season on January 18th in Coral Gables, Florida, competing in the Miami Spring Invite.
