Vanderbilt Head Coach Quotes
Melanie Balcomb
On Kentucky’s press…
“They can’t press unless they score and they started scoring a lot, so they pressed a lot. We didn’t get the job done on the defensive end. We’re not going to use Jence as an excuse, if we defend them they can’t press all night and put the pressure on Jasmine and our guards.”

On frequent fouling in both Kentucky games…
“They’re a real physical team and they play a lot of players. In that style they can afford to foul, they can afford to be that physical and just keep going to more players and we played into their style tonight, so you saw both teams going to the free throw line.”

On losing the game…
“It’s just frustrating to lose that way because we didn’t play our game. Whenever you don’t do what you’re supposed to do and a good team steps up and is focused on their job… We have our roles now we know our job we’re committed to doing those things and our players didn’t do that tonight.”

Vanderbilt Player Quotes
Tiffany Clarke
On playing with four fouls in the second half…
“It was extremely frustrating especially because I didn’t need to foul and I felt like it was a foul I didn’t need to make, so it was extremely frustrating because I knew my team needed me.”

On the game…
“I felt like we didn’t play Vanderbilt basketball. We let them dictate us and let them make us play their game instead of playing our game.”

Christina Foggie
On the offensive performance of Tiffany and herself…
“There were times where either of us got in spurts where we found something that works. It was just the attacking mentality that Coach told us to have, and to go at them and get to the foul line as much as possible.”

On the game…
“I think we didn’t get through our sets like we should have and I guess the physicality of the game kind of got us away from what we needed to do.”

Kentucky Head Coach Matthew Mitchell
On the game…
“Big win for our players today. I’m really proud of them. We fought hard. It was a tough game. Vanderbilt is a really good team. It’s always tough to come here and play. I’m just appreciative of a great effort and know that Vandy was short Rhoads (Jence) today. I know that impacted their team but I’m really proud of our players playing so hard.”

On playing Vanderbilt without Jence Rhoads
“It’s always hard to figure out what would have happened. Our full court pressure was pretty good in Lexington when Rhoads did play, so I think that for us more so than the other team and who’s available for the other team, it’s really about can we bring the right type of energy and can we do what we need to do because we try to do that against any team. I think it’s probably a little bit more about our players doing a good job. Certainly when you lose a good ball handler like her, I’m sure them not being at full strength had something to do with it.”

On the beginning of the second half…
“I just was so pleased that we came out and took the fight to Vanderbilt at beginning of the half and tied it up quickly, and surged into the lead quickly. That was a great sign for us. The players executed that first play out of the half and that always makes you think that they’re in tune and mentally with it, and that’s what we needed down here today in this difficult environment.”
